8000 small rainbows were recently released in the lake. But, the surface temp was still 42 - 45. Although I'm sure the constant rain had something to do with that, I was pretty sure were not going to hook into much. My dad and I trolled quite an assortment of gear and baits on 2 long lines and one downrigger rod. No definite signs of kokanee schooling up yet, Praying for Kokanee in 2017!
The 8000 trout were definitely part of the reason to get out on the water, but testing and adjusting for a new transducer were the main goals of the outing. Our humminbird had a poor quality 2d transducer built into the factory down imaging transducer, and the new one was y-ed into the existing transducer. Huge improvement in displaying suspended and near surface fish arches! Did some repositioning of transducers for better high speed readings too. Good reading at speed now, but a ridiculous rooster tail sprays up from the deeper mounting positions. Oh well..
Thanks to Larry's wealth of sonar knowledge, I was immediately able to recognize that the transducer was angled too far forward, as we were displaying partial fish arches with no trailing edge... easy fix.
