Let the snow melt before we headed out and had lines in the water by 1pm. Water is a bit murky but much better than last year early. Ramp and dock at Speelyai are very usable. 4 other trailers in the lot, most boats were ending as we were starting. Saw 1 other on the lake. Air temp 38, water temp 38-39. Rained hard, mild winds, cold fingers baiting corn. Longlined 140-150 ft back with no weight. Fish are shallow, 10-15 ft. Kept 9 Kokes and a fat rainbow. Hot spot was just a bit east of the stump garden on the south end (gps pic shows our loop). Fish were 11.5-12.5 in with 1 guy just shy of 14. A bit leaner than the winter Kokanee we caught recently at Chelan. Lost a half dozen. At least 3 hit the surface and "tail danced" on the surface like a marlin, cool show. Meat looks good as usual. Several combos of wedding rings and dodgers worked but the rainbow dodger and "fruit loop" wedding ring Melissa tied was by far the hottest, accounting for probably 80% of bites. Shoepeg cured in bloody tuna oil/procure. Didn't hook a single Pikeminnow this trip.

Could this be a comeback year for Merwin?

Paul: What a sweet day you and Melissa must have had up there. Thanks for reporting. We are headed to Lake Chelan on April 11th to fish with a guide the first day and then fish out of our own boat at Chelan for a couple more days if things are good. If not we plan on heading up to Roosevelt. Can't wait.

Thanks tmanh2o. The rainbow was a male that hit hard. Knew right away it wasn't a kokanee. Hit a wiggle hoochie.

Denny, I'm sure Chelan won't disappoint but it's hard not to want to try Roosevelt for a couple heavyweights. Good luck!

I think you are on the wrong site if you expect folks to "not go tell the whole world" around here. Just sayin'. Bob R

Yeah I always thought the point of posting reports is to share what worked (or didn't work) on any particular day. Merwin is a big lake, Kokanee move, and tomorrow could be a whole different story. Good luck out there, should be plenty of hot spots to try this time of year if you're willing to brave the weather.

Wow people get worked up so easy, I said missed the good old days. I know them days are gone and this is reporting site. The post was in jest I know the days are gone. It's just now days places are only good so long and then they are over crowded all at one time, its like bumper boats on the lake when word gets out.
