I took a ride from Spokane to Eloika with my daughter today to check out the ice quality/quantity. The ice is still about 16 inches thick and holding up great, with all the rain and warming wet weather there is little snow left on the ice, it's been replaced with some slush and water on the surface, with a thin skin of ice on top of that.
The weather was light rain with mild temps. My daughter wanted nothing to do with fishing today, so I took the auger and a small amount of gear out and checked out the fishery while she hung out in the truck waiting. I had four or five bites in a short amount of time and landed two of them to bring home. There were at least four other groups out on the lake today.
On my way back in, I found a scene that pissed me off (pictured), there were five or six perch and a sunfish encased in surface ice, that someone caught and didn't bother to release or take home. In my opinion people like this ruin fishing for everyone.
