I thought that Long Lake was closed for the year but then was told that it was not, so I was excited to get the pole in the water after a month or so off from fishing. I like to fish for bass, and I know the bite has been slow for a while there, but I don't care, I just like to fish. So I got to the lake around 8:30 or so, and went to my usual place near the beach but the water was high. Checked out the public dock and a couple of people were fishing there and I didn't want to crowd them out so I decided to go to the boat launch for the first time. No one was there, so I walked out and started fishing for bass. 2 boats were out on the water and I noticed them pulling in a few. Got a hit on the Storm/Wildeye Swim Shad, and got the fish to the dock, but he jumped off before I could land him and get a pic. I noticed the guy rowing the boat pulled in a couple that looked like trout, then he pulled in and we talked for a minute and he told me about salmon being in the water. No biggie, I saw he was catching trout so I swapped out my pole for my ultra-light pole to see if I could land a trout or two. After a little while I'm reeling in a black Rooster Tail, and right when I'm about to pull it out of the water out of no where comes this fish and nails it! Wish I could have fought him on the ultra-light, but I did get him on the dock for a quick pic before I got him back in the water. Nice Coho (I think!) I had no idea Long Lake held these things....
