I hit Potholes Reservoir yesterday to test several lures. The fishing was slow; only one rainbow to the net. (Had another one throw the hooks behind the boat.)

In spite of only netting one fish, and having to "work at it", I seriously enjoyed the time on the water: The rainbows in this reservoir are slabs. They outfight the steelhead in Rock Lake. (That's a steelhead rod that the fish in the video has doubled over.) See the footage here:

Both fish (the one that threw the hooks and the one in the video) were taken with a 3.9 inch OG1. The outside is red-oxide over black scales. The inside is fluorescent orange. (I've been rigging these 3.9" lures as saltwater lures; but, after yesterday, have decided that I need to rig some for freshwater and get them up on the store.)

Nice fish, thanks for the video. Did you see or hear of anyone getting walleye?

No word on the walleye (or any other fish). The only party I spoke with was a crew of duck hunters who were pulling out when I launched my boat.

When I arrived (around 11:30am), there were at least six boats on the water: Two were focused in a pocket north of the state park and adjacent to the dunes. One was out in the middle (appeared to be stationary), and, three were over on the east shoreline. Two of these three appeared to be trolling north and south along that eastern shore. But, I never saw anyone playing a fish, or grabbing a net, in any of these boats.

By early afternoon, most of them had cleared out. (My truck was the only rig in the parking lot when I called it a day.)

Thanks, I'm on the west side and thinking of making a trip over for walleye. With the lack of reports I think it may not be worth it.

I'm from the West side also bit have relatives over in central and eastern wa. From what I've heard from them the fishing has been tough for walleye this season. Since the spring no real big numbers of fish caught. Even by the guides. Banks lake though I heard was doing a little better and so was Moses lake but still not as great as recent years

Nice report Donn. I'm really looking forward to spending more time with my selection of OG lures at Roosevelt next week. I'm happy to hear you'll be rigging some of the saltwater versions for freshwater. Big trout chase big lures. I like the newer colors too. ;-)

Last year I hit up potholes and caught trout too. your right, there slabs. I had more fun targeting them in front of the ramp area than I did the EYES
