With the Seahawks on their bye week, I figured it would be a good day to get out fishing so I arranged a trip with a friend who has a boat. This was my first time fishing clear lake and I've seen all the reports here about the kokanee so I started the day targeting them while my friends tried for trout. I ran a 1/2 oz egg weight with a Shasta Tackle Sling Blade UV Pink dodger and a green spin hoochie with 85ft of line out. Within 5 minutes I had a 12" rainbow in the net that I released. About 5 minutes after that, along the south shore in 40ft of water I had a hit. I set the hook and felt a big pull. As I started reeling I could tell it wasn't a trout as the fish took line. I had my first kokanee ever in the net...17 inches!

We continued trolling all morning. I caught a few more trout on that setup but no more kokanee. I tried a few different setups and lures and caught a couple that I kept. Me and the boat owner had fish but her boyfriend had none. We decided to try some still fishing so we anchored on the northwest end of the lake in 29ft of water since I had seen some fish on the finder there. She and I ended up limiting in that spot and my last fish was a beautiful 17in rainbow! He ended up bringing 2 into the boat.

The weather cooperated and only drizzled off and on all day. We finally decided to call it a day and the rain came pouring as we loaded the boat. Lots of trout with good pink meat and my first kokanee is a 5 star day in my book. The pictures are of the kokanee and the large trout of the day.

I am so glad you got a big kokanee for your first. This year the kokanee at Clear are bigger but there aren't as many. Thank you for posting your report!
