Got on the water about 8 a.m.The rain was only drizzle and soon stopped. Water mostly calm. I decided to target the crappie I know are in there. I went straight out from the front of the dock. Almost to the middle and started trying to find them. I set up a slide bobber with a red and white jig and small weight between bobber and jig. I let it down to the bottom then slowly reeled it up ..very very slowly. I felt a tap. I did not get it. Then I remembered to reel to when I fel taps and stay there. I then woild slowly draw up the line wiggle it a little or move side to side then drop and repeat. I kept getting taps. Finally a hook up and I drew up a beautiful crappie.. success. I tried to stay at the spot but boat shifted and I did not find the scool again but got into some perch. Hook one normal one foul..let em go. With a fish finder you could mark the crappie probably jig for them. I am guessing I caught the crappie near 830 a.m.. I hope to go back and target crappie more. I caught a few perch here and there then started targeting the jumping trout. Lot's of activity there. Saw several trout jump clear of the water ..all silvery looking so guessing cuts. After rowing troll woth nothing. I sped up and wham fish ob ..brought in a beautiful cutthroat with a lot of fight. I had several other strong hits . Several hook ups and lost one beauty right at the boat probably in 14 in range. I hook into him pn the way in with way intense wind. Got a another trout on that snap my line. I.think it was on account of my line twisting with the wind. All and all that was my day. The cutthroat are in there and give a fierce fight. I should have offered them more. They were surface feeding and liked when the wind came up. Hope to see you all out there. sorry no picture of the cutthroat gave it to a fellow fishing buddy I saw.

Nice report. Only 3 weeks left to fish that lake.
Waiting on a new sonar to arrive. This one has side scan so it should help me locate schools of crappie and perch.
Might have to sneak down highway 9 and have a look.
It's been 25 years since the last time I fished Cottage.

@ northfork. Cottage lake is close to me. There is a place up north with crappie but I have not made it. I bet that would do it. I doubt many people target crappie at Cottage most are caught by accident. I caught one before this and I was told that someone caught one the other day off the dock with worms. I am sure it has changed some in 25 years. Was it always filled with houses? I mean around the lake. I would say the fishing is fun many October on Cottage lake. The crappie seem to hang out a near the middle and sometimes 40 ft off the dock. The perch tend to hang out in the corners of the lake where there are weeds. maybe I will see you up there. Always next year though. I have no idea when the crappie bit the best

@ San. Yeah they are listed. I think there are several lakes that do but takes some experimenting and work to find out if they are still there.

I must admit I had a blast catching even just one. It brought back memories of fishing in KS when we would sit on the dock and jig in that slow slow method. usually using an ultra sensitive rod to feel those slight taps.

Hi Heather, I am the guy who hosted the Coho Meetup this AM. You talked about doing a Meetup maybe at Bosworth/Langlois/Cottage..
Yeah.. set it up. I'd love to join you. (I vote for Bosworth (-: )
