October is finally here but it certainly didn't start with a bang. The Packernut and I fished hard all day for a total of 3 pike. We did manage to miss 8 or 10 others on the day, but for the most part, the fish were not overly aggressive. There was no identifiable pattern for us. We had bites on spinner baits, frogs, and glide baits, and the depths they were in varied from about 5 feet to 10 feet.
Warm sunny days this past week has actually raised the water temps. Last week I fished 60 degree water all day. Yesterday it was 61-62 all day. As I'm writing this report I see frost on the roofs of my neighbors homes and had 33 degrees on my outside thermometer when I got up today. That's what we need to get those temps down into the mid 50's and have the fish put on the feed bag.
This coming week shows highs in the mid 60's and lows in the low 40's so that will help. The fish we did catch were nice fish. We got one just under 6 pounds, one at 8 pounds, and one at 9 1/2 pounds.
Many thanks to the Packernut for his superb netting and photo taking skills. He's really getting good at both. :)
