Started the day in between thunderstorms on the west side of the launch. Worked the pads out and around to the pilings and fished the pilings picking up a dink on my Senko. Fished a Mojo-rig for a bit and then a jig all the way out to the drop off at the end of piling row, nothing. Switched over to a chatterbait and caught another dink working back down the pilings. I had a feeling the fish might react better to a moving bait given the atmospheric instability so I tied up my swin-jig from the Spring and began slow rolling it through and around the pads. This picked up the first decent fish, a 3.3lber that hit as the bait cleared the pads, photo'd and released. A couple casts later and fish number two came from the back edge of the pads, smaller at about 2lbs is was a decent fight through all the dollar pads to open water.
To continue this pattern I relocated NE of the launch and worked the shallow pads on that side. Hooked up with another decent fish but he spit me right at the boat, approximate 3.5-4lbs on that one. That pretty much did it for decent fish before the wind and impending black clouds talked me in to cutting my trip short, that and the fact that I am still trying to shake last weeks respiratory illness.
A decent day, wish I was there earlier and stayed later but it was fun. Water temps have dropped 1-1.5 degrees since last week :) Fall is officially knocking on the door and Thursday we well welcome it in!
