Well we fished Deep Lake for the last time this year before it closes later this month. We got on the water at 07:30 and had the lake all to ourselves. The winds were blowing pretty good but thanks to my Minn Kota Terrova, boat control was a breeze.

The fish were down in the 40-60’ range and we caught most of them in 45-50 FOW trolling at 1.1-1.6 mph. We used watermelon kokabow dodgers and green and red wedding rings with garlic scented corn. Fishing was a little slow but we got our limits in about 3 hours. Some of the fish had their jaws starting to “hook over” so I think they are getting ready to spawn. Most of the fish were in the 12” range. It was a great year for us on Deep Lake. We just learned this fishery in early August and managed to take home a total of 85 fish for the year, not bad for a beginner. Looking forward to next year. I'm going to smoke some more fish for the winter.

Wow, what a variance in time theses kokes have for spawning throughout our state! Ive seen red kokes on the west side in august, and those will spawn into late october im guesing....

I dont know what I would do without some sort of autopilot, fishing with two young daughters and downriggers and wind.....

I dont get how they used to ever catch anything before technology.

Nice fish btw, cant wait to get out there some day.

Does a creek run into Deep at the north end? I know one runs out at the south end. Do they have a successful spawn?

C-money, on the north end of the lake there is a deep ravine that goes to the lake, but it looked dry all summer. I don't think it has water in the creek until spring run off. I'm not sure how the lake is filled, I think there is underwater springs because on the cliff walls in certain areas there is water coming out of the middle of the cliffs about 50' high.
As for the spawn, I don't know what the fish actually do. I know WDFW plants Kokanee fry in there but there is also self-repopulation too.
