What an awesome day of fishing!!
I have never caught a Bluegill or Crappie in my life. Was raised a trout and salmon guy.
On the lake at 0730. A spectacular sunrise with no wind.
I couldn't locate a lake map anywhere.
Headed out from the launch and aimed for island in the middle of the lake.
Water depth was 30' and fish were holding at 12-15'.
Pulling a green wedding ring tipped with a worm. Didn't take long and I had my first Bluegill a 6" beast.
Back out and I get my first Crappie, a decent 9" fish.
Have been following blufin loui and his spiny ray adventures. Had bought some Trout Magnets. Put on a green one and started jigging with a 1/64 oz weight with crappie nibble.
With the sonar I would troll until I located a school. Then just drift and jig..
Crappie, Bluegill and Perch non stop for 4 hours.
Wind came up and I was using a lot of battery to stay stationary. Didn't want to anchor and wait for thr fish to find me.
Headed back to launch with the battery running low.
It wasn't until I started breaking down the raft that I realized that I hadn't tossed a thing to try and get a Bass.
Game Warden showed up and checked licenses. I must be getting old. He didn't look old enough to be packing a pistol.
Sonar did pickup individual fish holding tight to the bottom in the deep water. The Down Vue feature is awesome at showing the bottom structure.
Have time in the morning to hit the lake for while before heading to Roses and Wapato for the weekend.
Hope to see blufin loui out on Wapato on Sunday.
Look out fish I'm coming back for round 2 and a little bass fishing Wacky style.
