Since finding algae on the north side of my boat gunnels I figured I needed to put it in the water. So I met my brother Richard and Kim (pink pole) at Ward Lake in Olympia 7am.
I think it was May or June that I was talking with Larry Phillips from WDFW about the lack of kokanee at Clear Lake (hence their large size) he mentioned I could go to Summit or Ward. Last month I went to Summit twice so today I went to Ward.
I had the Water Wolf camera running and in viewing, of all the places, this is the one with the fewest follows.
It was a cloudy day with only sprinkles on us. I had to watch out for swimmers as they got in the water before we did.
At first there wasn’t any wind and the 70 degree water was like glass. Kim and Richard got there rods in the water first then I got my 2 rods, stacked, in. Camera was on the bottom at 24 feet and the top at about 14. I was in about 40 feet of water when I get one on the top rod. We get it in and it’s a nice sized kokanee. I know someone, Trent, who has fished this lake a lot in the past. It has been similar to Clear Lake. Lots of smaller kokes. Not this year. Less means bigger.
I got a cutthroat next and then I put my second rod aside and just used my camera rod for the last kokanee. I got my fish on Dick Nite Dodger Pink Splatter or Pink Hypnosis with Wannafish A Lure’s Pink Splatter or Mini Squiddy Thang Pink with gold hammered blade.
Then there was quite a lull before Kim got her kokanee with a dodger I don’t know, with a Mini Squiddy Thang Pink with silver hammered blade. The wind came up and more swimmers came out.
We left about 10am.
Kim gave her kokanee to me but I gave it to my neighbor. The picture of the meat is my 2 kokanee and the cutthroat. Can you tell which is the trout?
