I hate to say it, but today was my first trip for kokanee of the season. I decided to give Ward lake a try for the first time and brought my friend J.R. along. We arrived to the lake late around 11 in the morning. Lunched the boat and saw a few other boats fishing. Talked to one couple that had two fish. They said it was a morning bite and hadn't had any action since 8:30. We trolled 20-30ft deep with standard kokanee gear and one rod had a rapala style lure. An hour into fishing we started catching some fish. The first was nice Rainbow, followed by more. Then we hit some coastal cutthroat's. We finally ran into a few kokanee. I believe we hooked 4 or 5 but only manged to land three of them. The biggest kokanee went 16 inches. We ended up both getting a limit of fish. All and all a great first effort on a new lake. I am looking forward to going back for the morning bite.
