The Packernut and I spent the entire day Sunday, battling the wind, to grind out 2 pike and a dink large mouth bass. Wind was calm till around 9 or 10am then blew all day after that, maybe even reaching 20+ mph at times. The two pike we got were 24" and 28" and both came on a white spinner bait. Warm and windy just doesn't get it done for pike fishing. I may get out next weekend if the wind doesn't hang around. If the predictions are for wind. I'm out. :)
I always check the wind forecast before I head out. Depending on the wind speed and how bad I want to go will determine if I go and where. Used to catch Pike in Minnesota when I was a kid and we kept most of them. Do you C&R or keep some? Is there a slot?
No slot and no size or daily bag limit on pike in Idaho or Washington. Both states consider them an invasive species, so it's catch all you can and keep all you want. I release every fish I catch. I'm not a fish eater, just a "Fishing" lover. I only keep an occasional fish for friends when they ask. If someone is fishing with me I don't mind if they keep fish. That's up to them. With all the pike haters out there, I like to release them all so there will be more to catch down the road. They're a great game fish. It's too bad so many people hate them and point the finger at them whenever a species struggles in a certain body of water that happens to have pike in it.
Thank you for the report AJ'S Dad I always enjoy reading your post and wanted to thank you. I will be retiring on CDA lake in a few months. Can't wait to get after the pike over there. Building a home near windy bay.
