Had a decent day on American Lake. Didn't give it 5 stars because we had to really work for our fish today, but the work was worth it as we ended up getting some really nice fish. Started the day early at 0530 throwing jerkbaits shallow. Only caught a couple 10 to 12 inchers so I went back to a crankbait fishing in 25 FOW and caught a really nice fish. I have an 18 inch 2x4 I use to rest my motor on and it dwarfed the board.
The fish barfed up a few sculpins so I switched to drop shotting a KVD Dream Shot of similar size and color and picked up a few more 12 inchers and then a pig that was bigger than the first one! Caught him under a marina dock in 30 FOW with the drop shot. American Lake is a blue ribbon rock bass fishery (sigh) and we must have gone through two bags of worms on them.
7 hours on the water, two really nice fish, a bunch of smaller fish and a zillion rock bass. I tried out the new Rapala Shadow Shad and caught rock bass, yellow perch, and a couple small smallies. Work in progress.
