After seeing all of the reports on this lake, especially by gReEnBuL, I decided to give this thing a go. I had never targeted crappie before, but caught a few accidentally, decades ago when I was a teenager, out of Lake Dolloff in Federal Way. A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a few crappie jigs, and today I finally put one to use.
I drove out to the lake while it was still dark, and waited for the some light before following the trails to what seemed to be the hot spot on the shore. Got to the little dock and none other than the man himself, gReEnBuL, and two others, were already fishing. My education began. The dock is about big enough for 4 people casting and jigging, and I was the lucky 4th. Only crossed a line on one cast.
After casting for a spell, I think I see my bobber go down, and go for a hook set. Thought I missed it because there was not much tugging, but as I was discussing the incident with my fellow anglers, one calmly pointed out that my bobber was staying down, and that I should get to reeling. :D Thank you!! Turned out to be a small one, but still, I knew I was "in the game". The next fish hooked up right as I was preparing to lift the jig out of the water. Nice surprise. My third and final fish was a while later. And I was still learning to recognize a bite, because I remember the moment the bobber went down, and my first thought was wondering why. I figured it out in time to get the hookup and get the fish to the dock.
The bite seemed die down about 08:00, so I packed up and left happy with my first successful crappie sortie in the books. Thank you for the tips, gReEnBuL and friends!
