Okay as Mike Carey says the wind has been brutal on Wenatchee. How ever we have had an amazing season there. This report is for Aug 7-9. I had my brother and his wife along with me each day. Sunday was crazy windy. The worst I have ever had on lake Wenatchee and I have fished it many years. Standard 10 inch leader 2 red hooks and another like a fly same 10 inch. Chrome dodger. Best depth was 81-94 feet with 94 after 7:30. Sunday 5 fish but was very difficult to keep the speed at 1.0 mph we used the drift sock and both the electric trolling motor and kicker to keep us going straight.
Monday comes and we were at the launch at 5:00 and only a couple rigs in front of us. Lines in the water by 5:30 and had first fish in less than 5 minutes. Had 13 in the boat by 7:40. Kept at it until 10:00 and quit with 17 one short of our limit. Crazy good time. Saw the rain coming so we headed back to the launch. Wind was manageable but still ever present.
Tuesday at the launch at 5:10 and oddly enough no other rigs around. Made me think they closed the season. Fishing by 5:30 took a little while to get the first hit but once they started we had doubles and triples with many lost fish. Water was flat until about 10 and the wind returned. I was gutting our fish while trying to get one more. Well guess what. We hooked into a triple as the wind was getting strong. Landed 2 of them and called it quits as my brother need to be heading back to Oregon. So back to the launch by 10:30 with another 16.
What an epic season and I thought 2014 was the best it could get. This year has eclipsed 2014. We have taken 13 friends and family (North Dakota and Oregon) out this year with several being out of state licenses so this fishery defiantly supports our local economy.
Check out Washington State CCA and get involved. Love the fact that fishery is very healthy sustainable wild run!
