Greeeeen water welcomed me to Fazon this morning :(

Oh well, I figured the rest of the shallow local lakes would be the same so I launched anyways. Turned right from the mouth of the launch channel and started the morning with a black Strike King Double Buzz and only managed to scare the crap out of a dink. Threw a spinnerbait a dozen times and then a chatterbait...nothing doin'. Flipped a 4" Senko in the pads and got my first strike, a little pounder, then another and another. I stuck with the Senko for the first lap flipping pad openings and the outside and inside edge of pad fields where accessible. The inside edge was full of dinks and pounders while the outside edge and some of the holes produced the better fish. I was using a weedless wacky hook and lost a couple larger fish as they ran straight back at the boat! The weather was cloudy, windy with thunder to the west of me but as soon as that stopped so did the bite!

Lap two and I mixed it up with a 1/4oz jig, a Power Worm on a 1/2oz tungsten unpegged and a Zoom Z-Hog pegged, flipping the pads and working out to about 10 feet with the worm. This produced a few more but the bites were few and far between and all came from the pads, I only got one bite deeper and I'm pretty sure it was a perch.

All in all I think I boated about a dozen and lost the same, some smalls at the boat as I tried to flip them and a couple bigger fish that ran at me and came off. Sore back and growling stomach sent me home about 2pm.

Saw some cool clouds out there today and thanks to Scott Sistek at KOMO4 weather I now know they are called "Asperatus Clouds". Very cool!

Nice Report as usual. I like your writing style. Have you ever thought about doing a little writing for magazines? I did that for several years after I retired from a real job. You won't get rich but you can pay for new rods, boat gas and etc. Take photos of launch ramps, lunker bass and etc - they help sell stories. Washington-Oregon Fish and Game is one good magazine to write for. You can write for writers guide lines for any magazine. If you are going to be fishing - you might as well get paid for it.

Thanks Bob. Never knew the writing thing was possible? I always figured those guys were staffers. Interesting for sure. If you have more info feel free to PM or email me, thank you! I will be doing a bass fishing 101 video series for beginners and first timers soon...looking forward to that!

You can goggle Writers Guide Lines and get a lot of information. If you read magazines there is an address to write for writers guide lines. I wrote mostly "how to" "where to" and "when to" type stories - also did a few steelhead stories and even some salmon stories. Check my bass articles on this site and most of them were articles that I sold. When you sell to a magazine you only sell 1st rights to the story. If you sell it another magazine be sure to tell them it is 2nd rights. I sold a couple stories to 3 different magazines. Pay at that time was about $250.00 - more with photos. I finally joined Northwest Writers Assn. and received several nice perks like a free trip up Hells Canyon with logging, food and fishing guides for free - And you could take some with you at very low cost. I took my son on one trip during the fall and my wife on another trip during the Spring. With a computer writing is so easy - I started with a manual Typewriter. Good Luck - Let me know when you sell your first story.

Thanks for the info. I did a little research last night, looks like a bit of a process but I'm sure once you get it down it's fairly straightforward? Definitely publication specific on some of the do's and don'ts!
