Hit tanwax again this week for some early bass fishing. The day started pretty slow and the sun was blazing by 7:30. I decided to switch from top water to finesse, and tied on a weightless senko, Texas rigged in black and blue. (My go-to color at tanwax) Around 8 I feel a little nibble. She didn't hang on long enough to set the hook, so I twitched the lure again and WHAM. She came back and hit it like a truck. I set the hook and she started taking line straight into the pads. Luckily I had just strung on some 15lb braid, but it still took me over 5 minutes to winch her out of the pads and the laydowns. She surfaced about 5 feet from the boat, and I realized how big she was. I could have tossed a grapefruit straight into her mouth. After a few minutes of trying to get her out from under the boat, I was able to lip her onboard. She measured 22" and weighed in at 5lb 8oz, my new pb. She's no giant, but it was one hell of a fight getting her out of some thick stuff. After measurements and a couple quick snapshots she was placed back in the water and swam off to go get bigger. Ended up being the bass I caught all morning, but was the best day of fishing I've had in a long time.
