My two sons and I fished Roses Lake on Saturday and Sunday, 3/12 and 3/13. My family dropped me off alone on Saturday at about 2:30 or so. The weather was fantastic - not a cloud in the sky and about 70 degrees, with a slight, variable breeze. While getting my tiny boat ready, I talked with a few people who were leaving. They all seemed to have done very well. One young man showed me the 9 Rainbows he and his son had caught. They all seemed to be about 11 inches. Nice fish. Got the boat in the water by 3:00 and started out to the east about 75 feet off the southern shore, trolling my favorite 3", sinking Repalla (Rainbow colored). It didn't take long to get a strike, but I missed landing the first 3 in the boat. It didn't seem to matter much, because they were hitting very fast. Had my limit by 4:15. When the family got back, I took one of my sons out, and we got another within 10 minutes. That encouraged them enough to go back with me on Sunday. Fine with me!!!

On Sunday, we got on the water by 1:00. The weather was about the same, only the wind had picked up. Same rig - trolling a 3" Repalla, a bit on the fast side, maybe 2-3 MPH. (Someone asked me about my speed, mentioning that he thought I was going a bit too fast. I agreed, but that seemed to be the speed the fish liked, so ...) We each had our limit by 4:00. three were 9-10 inches, one was 14+, the rest were all about 11 inches. Once again, others on the lake seemed to be doing just as well. Action from the shore did not seem to do as well, but I wasn't paying too much attention, so I could be mistaken about that.
All in all, a very good trip. 21 Rainbows, only 3 under 10-inches, great weather ... sure beats working!!
