Had 2 hours to kill so I headed out to the closest lake to my house - Green Lake. Got on the water with my float tube at the south end by the crew house at 10AM and fished until 12Noon. Started out slow in the first half hour with two fish caught, then from 10:30 till 12:00 it was about a 30 fish day. All were released.

All fish except the first two were caught on a black thin mint leech pattern using a slow retrieve and a 10 foot sink tip line. The little hatchery fish were 6" to 9" in length and are still hanging in the top 3 - 5 feet of water. So all the guys on the bank soaking bait were having less luck than I was because they were using sinkers with their power bait and in most cases were too deep for the fish.

Also, the float lines for the crew race lanes can become a snag fest if you are not careful. You have to cast down the lane parallel to the ropes in order not to lose your fly/lure/bait/etc.

Fishing should be good for you power baiters once the fish grow up a bit and once they move into deeper water in the next couple of weeks
so keep at it.
