Decided to go out with the wife for a couple hours yesterday night. I had never been to Heart before, but it is only 45 minutes or so from the house, so I figured we would give it a shot. What a nice little lake! A bit of a downer, there is algae blooms everywhere. If you can get through them, the middle of the lake seems to be okay, but it was a bit of a chore to get through. Way worse than Clear Lake and they bombed Clear, so who knows if there is a plan here. In the spring before the bloom hits, this could be quite the bass lake... Anyway, the sign at Holiday Sports said that Powerbait was key, so we figured we would try that. We hit the lake about 7 but couldn't get anything to do anything until the sun went down. Once the sun dropped and the mosquitoes came out (and I mean came out!), the bite was one! Powerbait hit pretty well, but what really worked was the old batch of worms I found in the back of the fridge from March. The ones that are almost liquified, but still just barely intact. We got 7 fish in about 45 minutes, or slightly less. All in the 12" range, +/- 1. Finally it tapered off and we waited about 15 minutes without a bite and so we called it quits since it was going to be near 10:30 when we got home. Overall, not a bad night. I always enjoy it when the wife catches fish!

Heart Lake has bass in in you might try targeting them. I lived in Anacortes summer 1998 to fall 2006 and caught a lot of top water bass in Sept/Oct like 20-30 per night after work. Weeds come up they get out deep from shore. Try from boat launch go left and across the lake and go to South end working pads and then out deep and I mean 20 ft out deep from the pads...yep you can catch bass in middle of the lake almost there. Biggest I got there was 17.5" but most are small in 6-12" range but lots of action. Good luck.
