I had a great day on Yocum and the weather was perfect for fishing. I arrived about 11:30 am and started fishing shortly after noon. Heading north from the launch I started marking fish as soon as I got in 20-30 ft of water. The majority of them were holding in that depth range all over the lake.
I started off using a fly that Lotech Joe came up with a few years back called a Orange Blossom Special. It is a wooley bugger with an orange bead head, tail and body with flash mixed in.
This fly was very productive all afternoon long. I hooked into about 30 fish and landed and released about 15, losing the rest when they were near the surface. Most were in the 12-16" range.
The weather was very good, overcast with a light breeze and in the mid 60's. The water surface temperature was 65ยบ and the water was very clear.
The only insect activity that was apparent were adult Dragonflies and Damselflies hovering over the surface. To my surprise, these didn't set off any rises from the fish.
