Today's report is a fish story....went to Chain Lake on Father's day after work and first time ever almost no parking and had to wait to launch my boat. Family was fishing from shore at launch not having any luck and old chain lake friend was leaving...got on the water 4pm and fished until 9pm....Weather was a changing so was windy.....I got a bite right away in lily pads and saw a big swirl later when I moved and got hung up on log, lily pads, stick, you name it I hooked it. Wind makes it tougher to cast your top water minnow...did get nice 9.5" bass on my 3rd cast and had a few more V's in the shallows swim at my bait but no big hits...moved to West end of lake and tried some canals and saw more swirls but no hits....saw new guy standing and bottom fishing and saw him catch one but he wasn't having much luck either in the wind. So decided been cold and rainy lately maybe the trout might be biting...hit the trolling motor and set it on 3 and went with the wind with my top water perch behind me and sure enough fish on...cut the motor he jumped fish off! Start up the motor about even with boat launch now in middle of the lake let out some extra line go 20 seconds FISH ON! This one got up to the boat and saw him before he got off...2nd trout about 10-12" range he was a wiggler....so troll some more to far end of lake on boat launch side...see it's calmer cut the motor take in the line...wait for my drift to stop and first cast FISH ON! Nice Bass this time right species 10". I had to laugh but I have done this 3 times this year motor to a spot cut the motor first cast fish on!

Wind was still not letting up so trolled some more got 4 trout 11", 10" and two 13", got one more bass not trolling on top water 8". Ended up 3 bass and quit early before dark. I did lose a nice bass where I saw the swirl earlier in the day...he didn't hit my lure but took it down...so when I set the hook didn't have him well...he was probably in the 12"-14" range which for Chain Lake is big.

Water was a bit cool for bass so some warmer weather should heat things up again.

All fish caught and released including the trout. I wasn't hungry.

Good luck out there.

James

Welcome I didn't catch the rainbow colors in the clouds left of the Sun but there were there. Gotten some great sky shots at Chain Lake late in the evening fishing there over the years.

I always like seeing reports on the lakes that I have had the opportunity to fish in yesteryear.

Nice fish! Just a reminder though, that Chain switched over to a selective water fishery and treble hooks are not allowed. Only single barbless hooks and no bait.

Thanks Irafly...I don't usually fish for trout there just happen to land one now and then while bass fishing there. They must of updated the rules in the last few years there. I will make note of it. I normally let everything go there as nothing huge there just a lot of fish.
