This could have been a 5 star day. Rainbow Resort held their annual fishing derby and released 150 3-8lb trout. The lake was packed and within the first 5 minutes my son landed a decent 12" rainbow. After that we tried everything in the tackle box with no luck. We ended up keeping two perch he caught along with the rainbow, while I ended the day with a single 10" rainbow I released and a small perch.

We saw at least twenty of the lunkers get weighed for the derby. One boat had 3 guys in it and they caught 6 of the jumbos. I talked to them and they said they were trolling wedding rings with a worm, so we rigged that up with no success. These fish ranged from 19-23 inches and 3-5lbs! There are still about 100 of these big boys still in the lake.

So I decided to go out again on Sunday to see if I could get one of these trophy trout....skunked! We again tried everything without a single bite in almost 4 hours. Talked to several people in boats and on the dock and found that nobody was catching anything. While it's tempting to attempt to get one of those big trout I'm thinking this lake might be done for the summer. Too bad, it's close and I enjoy fishing here.
