Unfortunately short trip today as I had to tip my hat to mother nature and head home early. Waited out one thunderstorm to the north of me before launching, it headed east so was gone pretty quick. Got on a decent jig bite early in and had a couple 1.5-2.0lbers and two dinks to show for it before I even made it out of the launch cove. Fished the rock point and picked up another. I kind of blasted down this side looking for rocks that extended out a bit from shore, 7-8 feet seemed to be the depth. Did that for a while but could hear distant thunder again and it was black to the south of me.
I decided to just run south and fish the pads before it got too close as it was sliding NE and fairly active. I managed to miss two good ones on a swimming frog in the pads in about 3' of water. The rain picked up and the temp dropped so I knew the cell was getting close. A few more casts and BOOM, thunder right on top of me! I pulled the trolling motor and ran to the launch. It continued as I pulled out, it was only 3:30.
By the time I got loaded up and drove almost to McMurray it had passed and I almost turned back but decided not too as the t-storms are supposed to subside tonight and I have one more day to fish. Was looking good though! May hit Stevens tomorrow??
