I bought a kayak and of course needed to try it out so I hit Steilacoom lake for 3 hrs or so. I had never fished it before so I asked some locals that were fishing what species were in there and got the answers I suspected I would, warmwater fish and trout. I put a small curly tail grub on a jig and went to work. I must have caught 50 rock bass. I was looking for crappie or largemouth but no luck. I still had fun but need to make a new gsme plan snd try it again.

Nice to get a report on Steilacoom Mike. I have caught largemouth and smallmouth bass from 276 different different lakes in Washington State but I bombed out on Steilacoom. All I caught there was a big squawfish and ended up getting a hook stuck in my hand, past the barb, as I was releasing it.
Those little Rock Bass are great bitters and fun to catch. I fished it from a canoe and as I recall the parking near the launch ramp was not very good.

You are correct, Bob. Parking is very limited. It is never any good when you get a hook in the hand, espeacially past the barb. I intend to fish that water again in the near future and I will be sure to write a report when I do.
