Launched around 5:30 - 6am and there was one boat on the water and another launching. Calm and clear today, not great largemouth conditions but I was hoping the weather would position them for flipping and I could get on something consistent. The other two boats went right from the launch so I headed to the reed islands after a few unproductive frog casts near the launch. Once at the islands I started throwing a swimming frog and in about 8 casts had a small one miss...tried the Senko follow up but he wasn't playing. Continued around to the west side (shade side) of the islands and about half way down nailed the 5 pounder about 2 feet out from the reeds! I continued around the islands, lapping both of them once before I continued southwest towards the lily pads. Worked the outside edge of the pads with no action, kicked out a bit to fish a isolated reed clump to the right, had one about 2lbs miss the frog so I let the wind blow me in and began flipping the area. Third cast and he was on, cleared the pads and tail walked right to me spitting the bait in the process.
I moved back over to the pads and continued where I left off, I managed to hook up one more time on the frog and lost that one at the boat as well. I flipped the pads for a bit and missed one and lost another...smaller fish I would say 1.5-2.5lbs?
I threw Senko's, flipped reed lines and grass clumps including the length of the outlet and nothing at all. Chopped my way out of the milfoil and threw swimbaits and a swim jig in a little deeper water with no action. I decided at this point to head over to the east side where the pads are to see if they were clear of milfoil or buried and found them to be fairly clear. I would catch two more in the 3-3.5lb range on a Senko on the outside edge of the pads and nothing even looked at either of the frogs I threw or the spinnerbait.
I decided to roll out about 1pm and check out another lake. I went to Fazon first and probably should have stayed there but instead I ran over to Wiser and man was that thing NASTY!! Green algae so thick it looked like grass clippings?? The weeds are so thick and water so stained with algae that I lasted about an hour before deciding my night could be spent in better places. Not to mention my batteries were beginning to weaken after chopping through hundreds of yards of milfoil on Terrell!
