My wife wanted to get out and fish with me, so I took her to a spot I've been eyeballing for a year or so on the upper part of Long Lake. Tackle wise we were geared toward trout, but we ended up with one rainbow each (and I believe they were natives, definitely smaller than triploids and had a bit of a hook to the jaw), each caught a smallmouth bass, and 6 pikeminnow. We catch and release, so even the pikeminnow were a blast especially on the smaller gear. Almost every fish (9 out of 10) was caught on a a gold inline spinner. We tried lots of other lures and flies (w/ bobber) but the spinner was the ticket. I'd actually never even used one before, my son picked it out at White Elephant for my birthday present. The first fish was a rainbow on a fly the wife was using. Then I rattled off 6 fish in a row with the spinner until I put it on her pole and thought I could find something else that would work. She caught the next 3 until we were ready to go. Only fished for an hour or two since we had to go pick up our son after preschool. A good day of fishing though!

Yeah, I never think about that until after the fact. They fight decent enough and usually carry some size, so they're fun to catch at least. Especially on the light trout tackle. But I'd prefer a comparatively sized smallmouth any day so really should kill the squaws.

It was a gold Blue Fox Vibrax, 1/4 oz I believe. I've since bought a Panther Martin and Mepps to try out also alongside the spoons/flies I'm used to.
