Having fished Cottage Lake a bunch since the opener I decided to head to Pine Lake this morning and do some trolling in my Inflatable Kayak. It was my first time boat fishing at Pine and having reviewed the topo map I decided to start by cruising kind of close to the shore first if fish were rising...and they were and then working the middle as needed. I started by using my old faithful Rapala Floating Minnow size 7 in Rainbow trout pattern and going about .8 MPH I had a strike within just a few minutes of starting out at 7:15am. About 10 minutes later I had one on and having done a terrible job of netting I lost the fish at the boat when the rear treble hook caught the net and allow the flopping bow to unhook itself...my bad! Then I went on for another 45 minutes and nothing so I wondered with all the rising fish if I needed to be right at the surface to get them so I switched to a size 3 in the same color pattern and after 30 minutes I had 2 nice bows on board. Then the bite stopped. I tried slowing and speeding up the troll. Went to the size 7 again, switched to a size 5 in perch pattern and a #3 in silver but nothing. Switched to a green wedding ring with a bit of powerbait worm and nothing. There was one other boat on the lake and they only had one on board with their three rods going. The catch I saw going on from the dock seemed to also stop. Kept at it while sitting on a conference call for a few more hours but gave up in frustration and headed home to try out a new way of cooking these two trout. Yummy, Spaghetti sauce marinade and then put over noodles.
