Wasn't sure where I was going to fish today but let the weather determine it as after Craig left yesterday at 2pm, I got back to Sun Lakes and tidied things up a bit. I had heard that a pretty significant front was going to move through so kept the boat on the trainer and put the cover on it. About 5 pm the wind started whipping and by 6 pm it was a full blown hurricane force wale whipping through the park! It blew all night long so realized I wasn't going to have to get up too early Thursday and crashed about 7 pm as I was exhausted!
Woke up at 5 am to the same weather that I left when my head had hit the pillow but worked out to be a blessing in disguise as at work we were experiencing a looming union strike of all pickers and drivers so spent the morning on the phone and laptop getting things ready for a huge Friday mess! So much for a full week off but that is to be expected in the restaurant industry!
Well after a rain squall and a few more blasts of wind, I noticed about 11 am that just as quick as it had arrived the storm front had moved off and things were calm and clear!! Now where to go? Decided to give Banks another shot so pulled the cover off the boat, got my walleye gear ready and made the run back to the state park at Steamboat rock. I noticed a lot of boats working the shallower water to the east so headed that way and started my troll with 1 and a half ounce bottom walkers and 2 different set ups. First one was a hand tied green beaded spinner with sparkle green smile blade and the other a fire tiger spin drift rig by Mack's lures both hooked up with night crawlers.
Found out that between 15-20 feet was where all the action was and it wasn't long before I got my first walleye in the boat! Proceeded to lose 2 nice ones, release a 13"er and kept 4 walleye from 15"to 19" before another storm started to loom on horizon. Pulled the boat out just in time at 5 pm when dark clouds moved over head and got pummeled on the drive back to Sun lakes! Looks like I made another wise move and the Lord was on my side again!
Got back to camp to fillet these for a future meal and getting prepared for a weekend of fun and fellowship with our church's men's ministry retreat at Park lake! See you on the water!
