Well got the itch to catch some fish so hooked up the boat and headed to American for some fun! Hit the lake around 11am and headed over to north end to start fishing. Lines in two rods one pink and the other green. started marking fish right out of the gate but no takers. Made some circles and kept going thru them trying really hard changing speed colors and dodgers, after the fourth or fifth pass hooked one and game on. Its not fighting to much so it must be small, got it to the boat and I am by myself and it is small so I think nah no net grab and lift and plop it falls off. SOB....reset the gear and no joy for two hours troll all over nada.

I start making my way back towards the launch trolling and go over a few humps and mark fish at the top of those humps and fish on pulls the line from the clip and takes off running. This is a nice fish grab the net and in the boat comes a nice 13.5" koke. Reset gear and repeat process, again pull clip fish on fitting like it wants its freedom take my time in the net goes another nice 14" koke. Reset again make a few more passes same spot no joy. hmm so on my way and I started marking more fish hmm ok make a few passes and fish pull the clip again oh this is a good one take my time slow and steady wins the race in the net another 14.5" koke running out of time I packed it in and headed home happy.

The lake had about 20 boats fishing maybe more and no reports?? hmm. anyway hooked into six fish lost 3 got three and had 5 to 6 drive by's to stuck up to really eat my corn....lol. Great day ended at 4 pm or so and enjoyed some koke and ling cod for dinner!! What a meal.

All pictures take with the Galaxy S7 and the fish could not resist lures by wanna fish a lure!! Thanks Toni, these fish love your creations.

They were all clipped fish. Planted in November by WDFW if I remember correctly as a larger fry fish. Toni will chime in on this and correct me if I am wrong.

Yep. Clipped means older by 5-6 months than the fry they plant so many of that don't show up in the spring. Nice. And you got them after break of day!!!

Great job Hunter and thanks for sharing:) I was one of the 20 boats that started early, finished the day with only one Koke but left as you were probably coming in! Interesting..late bite?! I should have stayed and followed you!

Nitrosteve, I have never done well early at American lake seem to due better in the afternoon not really sure why. Maybe the jet ski's buzzing around the lake wake the fish up? I really enjoy this lake and once you learn where the kokes hang out depending on wind direction your half way there. Next is trying to figure out the lock jaw part, I tried every scent I had with very low results, sometimes you have to get back to the basics. I know I overthink things way to much and have to hit the reset button and when I do things seem to come together.
