Alarm went off at 5am but my son was not up to going out that early so it was a day on the lake by myself. I was on the lake by 6:15 and started trolling a Rebel Crawfish at a slow speed. The water was 69 degrees and fish were running at about 6-9ft. I had my first in the boat within 20 minutes and my second jumped at spit the hook 5 minutes later. About 10 minutes after that I had a big one on the line and got him to the boat but when I looked over for the net realized I didn't have it ready and as I grab for it the fish shook it's head and spit the hook. Nooo!
I decided to switch out the trailing treble hook for a standard red hook and that made all the difference in the world! over the next 2 hrs I caught and released 20-25 fish ranging from 9" to 12" and even landed a 9" crappie. The standard hook worked so much better than the treble with no more fish lost at the boat. When I got back to the dock one of the guys had a 17" and 15" fish on his stringer. I ended up keeping four 12" fish and went home to give my son a hard time. Needless to say he was mad he missed out and wanted to go on Sunday.
Sunday, alarm goes off at 5am again, this time he gets up too. We were on the lake again by 6:15 wearing our rain gear. The water temp had dropped to 65 degrees and there was a light rain. The fish weren't quite as active but he ended up landing 5 bows and I landed another 9" crappie and a perch along with a couple bows. Still a great day with fish on the line!
