I decided to hit Chain Lake today after work....went home to check weather.com for hourly forecast said 10% chance of rain for a few hours then 0% rest of the night...so brought rain gear just in case.

Arrived at lake at noon and one car in parking lot. Dad and his two boys been bottom fishing with worms and caught a mess of freshly stocked 5/2 trout and one hold over that looked to be 14". I am going for bass but figured trout might be back up plan if bass aren't biting. When I arrived light rain had started...I put on rain gear right away and launched the boat. Trolled a bit with my top water perch minnow to other side of the lake...then decided to do some shallow casting with Rat L Trap and top water minnow to shore...had one hit on rat L trap but he missed it...got first fish on top water within 10 minutes and felt water it was warm...so thinking might of missed the spawn at this lake.

Had a couple more swirls but was starting to rain faster and blowing me to far end of the lake from the launch...I ended up trolling some and casting for trout out deep no bites.
Made it to far end and tried top water minnow again couple twitches and fish on! Yep, he's a monster and waterskied him back to the boat 4"!! Threw in same spot out from shore a bit and by a sunken log I know is always there (I fish here a lot) one twitch nothing, 2nd nothinig, start swimming the top water minnow bam fish on!!! Whoa! Big Chain Lake Fish on! this one jumped twice which they do there and fought the aerial attack. Got him in and had to carefully lip him as he had swallowed the first set of trebble hooks. Nice fish 13" for Chain Lake anything over 12" is big. Got two more fish for total of five bass and lots of rain drops...like to fire that weatherman!

Glad I brought the rain gear. 13", 2-10", 1-9" and 1-Jumbo 4". Quit at 3:30pm rain wasn't letting up and was raining harder.

Not a bad day have to go there again when it dry.

All fish caught and released and some photoed.

I love chain lake. Probably one of my favorite small lakes to fish. Never caught anything big there but it is usually very peaceful and the small bass keep it exciting.

I have caught 3 big fish there and seen a 4th. In fact my biggest there is bigger then Lake Cassidy which I also fish a bunch. But large one's are rare there 10" is a big bass there but there are 100's of small ones to catch.
