I have heard about the 10lb trout in this lake since I was a kid and have always wanted to fish it but never have. So after 20+ years I finally took the trip down with my boy to give it a try. The lake and view is amazing and we did catch a lot of fish but they were all in the 9 to 11 inch range. We decided not to keep anything under 12 inches so did a lot of C&R early on. As the day wore on and it became apparent that we were not catching larger fish we decided to keep a few so ended up with two 10 inchers and an 11.

From what I could see and after talking to some other boats, nobody was catching anything of any size, but it was still a blast! We caught and released 18 fish and even though they were small, they did put up a good fight! The three we kept had good pink meat so I'm thinking these may have been fingerlings that were released into the lake.

I tried all sorts of lures, spinners, spoons, etc. The thing that worked best in the early morning was a green Rebel Crickhopper and in the afternoon a Rebel Wee Crawfish, both trolled as slow as we could go.

I will definitely go back to target the 5 to 10lb trout that are in the lake. I just need to figure out where and how to get them.

Most of those 10lb trout are caught on opening day! They have a fishing event every year opening weekend you can check Mineral lakes web page and see the pictures of those beauty's. There might still be a smart one out there just keep trying.

I grew up in Mineral, and worked at the Resort for a time. Definitely saw some lunkers pulled out of that lake. Trolling is a popular way to catch the smaller ones. I saw a lot of the bigger ones come off the bottom. Worm and marshmallow or power eggs.

Thanks for the tip! What part of the lake is the best bet to find a big one? How deep?
