Arrived at the launch with my two sons just a bit after 6:00 a.m. and was trolling twenty minute later west of Silcox along the VA hospital. All three of us have two rod endorsements, but I ran just one, 20' down and 30' - 35' back of the ball with a small dodger, and wedding band tipped with a single pink maggot. The other downrigger had a similar set up - and the boys had topwater covered with wedding band spinners and crawler tips. We were hoping for some kokanee (aren't we all) - but RB trout were all over the place, all running 10" - 13" or so. We put 13 of them in the box by 10:00 - and lost at least that many as we were bringing them toward the boat. All in all a great day with my boys - lots of laughs, and a few fish to top off the morning.

Thanks for the info. I'll follow your tips the next tme I go. How deep of water were you in? Did you use Gulp maggots?

We were fishing 20' down the wire on the downriggers, and the boys were using little to no weight on the top - quite a ways back from the boat. Gulp maggots in pink on wedding bands behind dodgers on the downriggers, and worms on wedding band spinners on top. 4 of the 13 came from the downriggers, the rest on long lines.

I had a similar experience on American! Though, I feel most of the laughs had were at my expense. Couldn't keep those bows off the line long enough to hook up any kokes.

They say a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. But really, who's ever had a bad day fishing???
