So this is a three day report from 4/29-5-1, we headed over for the NWFR get together and arrived in town Friday around noon and got camp set up at Chelan city park. We then ran over to the burger joint next to the boat launch and had a very tasty meal. With the boat in the water ready to fish.....we said let's go give it a try. Now keep in mind the wind is howling pretty good at this point but were here to catch some fish so off we go.

Now I have a new fish finder from last year so no hot spots nada...but we knew where we went last year and set our course a short run later we arrived and started fishing. My son was running a pink hoochie with a simon flasher, second set up was a purple dick nite with a koke a bow pink wedding ring. My poles ran a Pink Mack's DD dodger with a Kekeda Tackle Pink fly and the second rod I ran a green and pink dick nite dodger with a Mack's pink 60003 cha cha squidder.

We set our gear at 35' and 20' stacked my son's gear went in that general area as you know kids they have a mind of there own but he was in that ballpark depth. Now within five minutes fish on he reels it in first Chelan koke 12" fish. Hive fives and back to it. A few minutes later fish on again in the another koke, now I told my boy it not nice to out fish the captain......He laughs remember last year dad you got all the fish and I only got a few, hmm ok. We trolled around more and he kept reeling in fish. Then two hours later fish on for me nice 13" so I was getting happy. We fished till 7 pm and headed in with white caps and wind blowing bad....

Next day Saturday we get up around 6:30 hit the water by 7:30 or so no rush as I know kokanee will bite all day long. We hit up our spot again and right off the bat I got a very nice 15.5" koke and reset our gear and it was lights out fishing for us going back and forth between us. Then we got a nice 17" what I will call a wild cutt. I was unsure what is was and better safe then sorry so back it went. We did manage to catch a few small under size Chinook all released to live another day. We got a triple on and landed all 3 fish that was the highlight of the day for us!! We quit fishing around 2 pm with a limit of fish to clean and a get together to get to we headed in.

My son was one of the luck one's who got his number drawn by the fish princess and won a very nice bag of goodies. We had a great time and great food thank you Rseas and his family for cooking!! It was nice to meet a lot of new faces and talk with old friends as well.

Sorry so long...............

Anyway my boy really want to catch a laker trout so I talk with Jeff W of Darrel and dad's guide service and picked his brain on spots and what to use. Thank you very much for the information guys.

So we got up Sunday and hit the water we headed to our spot and picked up a few kokes back and forth we went again. Then my son says hey there some lakers on the bottom on the FF can we try and said sure. So I set up a Brad's super bait cutt plug in pink and dipped it in Hearing sauce and set it down to the bottom and raised it up 3' and we started our troll Adam's pole was the only one trying for Lakers I kept fishing for kokes with no luck. Anyway I watch the FF and see one come up and I turn and watch the pole and it starts pounding I say FISH ON!!!!! He grabs the pole and says its not coming in and its heavy. I told him don't pump just keep the rod tip down and reel slow it will come up. It takes a small run and then we gain some back and forth they go and a few minutes later in the boat his first Laker!!! A big THANK YOU to Jeff and Darrel for the tips. We got this laker in 105' of water with a 100' of wire out.

After some pictures we make a few more passes and had a few sniffs and follows but no more takers so we decided to go for drive up the lake and screw around and see the sights. On the way back we decided to stop and try our luck at the other side of the lake we had been fishing as we say a lot of boats last year over there but not this year. We dropped our lined again running that 40-20' depth. Fish on right away, then we got a few more and after a few passes all of a sudden fish on then a double we all excited then his second rod goes off a triple holy crap he says then I look and my second rod goes 4 fish on....we are laughing trying to reel two poles one in my hand one in the rod holder grabbing the net we got all 4 fish and called it a day!!!

What a trip we came home with a ton fish and great memories. How exciting it was for us to come back and be successful again. For those who don't know there is a gas station in Manson that has non ethanol fuel right across from the boat launch Mobil gas station.

Now a key to our success was super dipping sauce in Herring and Kokanne flavor did wonders. On the first day they wanted shrimp scent from Pro cure. Sorry again for a long story but it was a great trip and we had a great time hope to see you all next year!! If you get time have breakfast at Blueberry Hills we had to pick a pie from Pepe' to bring home. Mom's homemade pies WOW!!! The best and a the owner was a great guy to talk to.

Tight lines,
Eric and Adam

Great report. Nothing like good family times.
My ?. What do you do about security? I've had a cooler & rods stolen as well as my 9.5 evinrude trolling motor. Keeps me from any overnight trips. Sad!!!!

Wow great report! Sorry didn't get a chance to introduce myself~ I'm going to ask Mike to have name tags next year for the pot luck as I believe there were quite a few of us who didn't know who the others were unless we had a chance to talk! Great job on the lakers as I was doing the same thing on Sunday on the ledge and saw a few but no takers!

You guys did well! I agree with Barry. I too did not get to meet as many of the folks there as I would have liked to.

Coyoteking, I was worried last year and the park assured me no problems would arrise. This year no worries and that is what being older is about insurance right? You have to be smart and if they want it there going to take it bottom line. I do have locks on all my stuff but the rods and coolers...no way to lock those up on my boat.

Salmonbarry we were sitting behind you on your left at the amphitheater. I met you last year in person but it was quick...lol. Yes name tags would be great both our normal and call names as well. I did meet a few new people like David ran into him at the park. This was a great trip and maybe next year the meet and great will be longer and more time to mingle.

Where did you pitch that tent at? Anyone have a good place to take the family, pitch a tent and launch the boat around Chelan? Thanks for any advice. Chris

bandseeker, we stayed at Lake Chelan city park. http://cityofchelan.us/parks/rv/rv_park.aspx great place to stay and very nice clean bathrooms, they also have a boat launch and marina dock you can rent and keep the boat in the water overnight secure from the wind. There is also the state park where this years get together was held and they to have a launch and docks as well but not protected from the wind. You can't really go wrong anywhere in Chelan but the city park is close to town walking distance to all kinds of places for the family to enjoy or just stay and fish and camp. It is well worth the drive over for a weekend of fishing and fun!!
