Well got the chance to go out and take some high schoolers out for a fishing tourney. 3 kids in the boat. Had to direct them in the fine art of bass fishing. I had the ultra light in my hands most of the time. They were more amazed that I was pulling crappie and bluegill up just about every other cast. We started in the channel. But no bass. So we moved to the lower lake, and I hooked into a couple little ones on the ultralight. One of the kids chucking a crank got a little 9 incher. Kept on moving down the lake and we came across a willow lay down.. And we all took a 20 min crappie break. We pulled about 25 fish from there. Biggest was 11 inches. Smallest was maybe 6. Kids were having fun. Move on down the lake. Start chucking a jerkbait. Crappie eats it, and the kids are freaking out because they haven't ever seen anything like that before. Fish all the way down the lower lake and nada.. Go back up to the channel and I pick up a swimjig to see if we can't get a fish in the boat. Sure as hell, one clobbers it. Kids start freaking out again, huge fish to them. (2#). Gets them interested again. Everyone has jigs on now. One kid hooks a lillypad. So he thinks. Turns out it's a fish. He's all excited. I hook into 3 more bass in the canal and countless crappie and bluegill and some perch. Up to the upper lake we go to find more pads, kids are getting stircrazy being in a small area for a short period of time . more crappie and gills, couple hang ups. Move to a little cove and i pitch the jig out and I get one more . she went 2 1/2. And with the Gill in her gut about 3.. Now they're pumped. They start pitching to everything. Couple hit my they didn't set the hook in time. And again. More panfish. Lots more, missed a few big hits on the ultralight. Kids had fun. We all had fun. They did a 180 on casting from when they started the day. Now they will practice casting into a coffee cup.
