After not being able to fish at all last year due to medical reasons it felt great to be to get back on the water again. I got on the water about 1:15 on a sunny day with a light variable wind. The surface temperature was 60-62 degrees and the water was clear. Very little insect activity.
I started casting along the west lily pads with a water boatman which produced nothing. The fish finder was marking fish at about 20-25' so I switched over to my sinking line. I tied on a green damsel nymph pattern that has a red back. It proved the most productive for hits so I kept with it. Had several good hits and was able to land about 4 fish in the 11-14" range.
The fish in the photo, at least to me, looks like a Brown Trout. This is interesting because since the WDFW killed off the lake a few years back they have only stocked it with Brooks and Rainbows. Years back there were browns in Fish Lake. Someone else on the lake also said they caught a Brown Trout.
Left at about 6:45pm and enjoyed the day.
