Went to Williams for the opener and was a little worried about how the fishing was going to be since they killed off the lake last fall and replanted it this spring. I expected the fishing to be very slow with small fish. We started trolling various lures from Klink's and only caught a few small 12" fish so we thought the fishing would be small fish only all weekend.

But once we got past the weed island mid way down the lake, all we caught were fish that were over 14", they really seemed to like the gold color vibrex spinners. My 9 yr old caught the biggest at 4.1 lbs. The fishing was slow, but quality sized fish once we got mid lake. We caught a total of 34 fish and kept 26 fish. Overcast and a little windy, but still a fun time and the family enjoyed it.

Last fall they killed off both Badger and Williams since Badger connects to Williams through a creek is what I was told. Both were re-planted this spring.

Wow, sounds like a fun day, but I thought the daily trout limit was 5 per person whether kept or released?

@BeerElf1, the limit only applies to released fish if you are using bait. Looks like they were using spinners. No problem there.

7mmfan is correct- I don't use bait for trout, ONLY LURES. I am allowed to catch and release all day if I want. Just a side note for those counting my fish in the pictures, there was 5 of us in the boat fishing and we were there for 2 days so I could have taken 50 fish if I chose to do so but only kept the 26.

@7mmfan and @Walleye Be Damn Thanks for the clarification! I didn't know there was a difference. What spinners do you recommend?

BeerElf1- We use Blue Fox Vibrax size #3 and 4 when trolling for trout. We have been fishing Williams lake for 15 years now and that is the lure of choice and we do pretty well on them. When the sun is out the silver and blue work great for us, but if it is cloudy, gold seems to out fish the other colors 90% of the time. I just long line about 100' behind the boat and troll around. We always catch our limits on Williams with these lures. Hope this helps.

We are heading to Wiliams lake on Sunday, we are going to be still fishing this time due to the number of persons on my boat. Any tips

Thank you

There is a tree with a white sign and a number on it ( very popular and east to see from the water), there is a lot of people that anchor there and bottom fish. The trout usually hit just about anything. As a general rule, follow the crowds and that is where the fish will be when still fishing. Hope this helps.
