I went to Lake Cassidy after work and dinner arrived at 5:45pm and fished until dark. I figured after warm weather all week the bass might be biting and saw some crappie bites last week too. I started left of boat launch in first group of pads and 2 minutes in with my top water perch minnow fish on! Nothing huge but he hit like a 12" but 7" bass to get the first bass of the year. I caught bass last year first weekend of May so two weeks ahead of schedule.

I got 3 more bites and rolls and taps on my bait in those pads but nothing else. I got all the bites in back very close to shore and wood. I next tried pads to right of boat launch and dock and cove where the people feed the birds. Didn't get any fish and had a couple more taps. I then hit the motor and went to where the swallows have taken over the bird houses and shallower water. First cast after driving very fast over fish on! I big crappie decided to have some perch 10.5" and lipable. It was getting dark fast so did some quick casts few more taps but nothing took my lure. I ended up around the corner and by channel out of the lake...wind was pushing towards pads at end of the lake so figured if I was a fish that is where I would be. Sure enough next cast few twitches and bigger Crappie hit my lure 11.5". Wind picked up with darkness coming and got blown into the pads...I like stealth fishing so went with it and sat in the pads and cast out to openings...found one good spot and fish on then fish off...my lure came untied ugh! I hate it when that happens. Looked like a bass as about 20 seconds later he jumped straight up trying to shake off the lure. I have plenty of rapala's so retied one and went into the channel to get out of the wind. Got 4-5 more rolls in there and 2nd bass a big 8" this time fish #4...lost another one I had hooked for a second and landed last fish of the day a bluegill.

All in all better then I thought I would do 5 fish 2 Bass small, 2 Crappie large and 1 Bluegill. I had about 28 bites, hit, taps, rolls, swirls, and near misses in 2 1/2 hours of fishing.

Talked to a few other boats and most everyone was catching a few crappie.

All fish released to grow bigger.

James
