This early burst of almost summer weather has been heavenly. Thanks to all the great people for coming out and fishing with us. The Lake Trout have been biting Jeff Drift's made with Mack's Lures smile blade and components very consistently. Working the Barrens in depths of 180 to 205 feet at 1mph working within 5 feet of the bottom is the ticket. We bait the lead hook on those rigs with a little triangle of Northern Pikeminnow that just misses the point of the trail hook. The early morning bite at Colyar Ledge has also been great. If you're getting 3 to 4 fish an hour, you're doing great. Most of these fish are 2.5 to 4.5 pounds with the big fish yesterday being 14 pounds.
Cutthroat trout are very available in tight to shore. Trolling little roostertails about 10 feet down at 1.5 mph gets you into the fish. Green and Black both worked pretty good. These are mostly 10 to 12 planters but there are some nice 15 inch holdovers too. Remember the 400' "bubble" around the mouths of the tributaries and that all unclipped fish have to be released unharmed.
