Well hit American lake today with my 20 yr old son and had a blast. We arrived at 10:00 am and headed to the north end of the lake and started fishing. Got a few RB's right off the bat and was good to land my first fish of 2016 god knows I have been trying this year just have not been able to line the stars right but today we did. Now we were trolling for Kokanee but knew it would be tough going and the RB would be willing. After catching five RB's the pole starts dancing and my boy grabs it and he is all smiles nice little fight and first KOKE of the year goes to my kid.....sweet we were high fives and super excited to pick one up and it was clipped so a late year planter. We wrapped it up about 3pm to many pleasure boaters and no bites.

All in all a great day 8 fish came home only 1 koke but never the less a American lake koke. Trolling a pink squid with a silver blade I won at Toni's kokanee talk a few nights ago. It caught a bunch of RB's to boot. We lost at least 6 fish some right at the boat some from jumping out of the water long line hey that's fishing!!

Tight lines!!!

Yes it was and the other rods had the squiddy thang pink and the squiddy thang. We were running four rods. They wanted pink today.....nothing else worked. Oh and those little treble hooks are sharp....stuck in my finger way way past the barb....that fuc**r hurt pulling it out good thing it was the smaller ones.....lol.

Thanks Toni for some great lures!!

When I first started tying them I got one in like that (in the house) I had to yell and have my son pull it out with a pair of pliers.

Don't you folks know about "snatching " the hook out without pliers or excessive pain? You tie a piece of STRONG line to the bend of the hook ( I like braid, but use a solid knot that won't slip). You then press down on the shaft of the hook, with other hand pull quickly backwards on line, the hook should come out easily, the downward pressure keeps the barb from sticking and it follows the cut already made. You can follow it on You-tube by goggling hook removal. I had to do it alone one day when a frisky trout threw a treble from a jointed rapala into my thumb while releasing it. THAT took a little coordination! The old guys at the launch were too squeamish to do it for me. It doesn't tear up your skin the same way as pulling with pliers. EVERY fisher person should learn this trick as hook setting in face or hands is traumatic enough. Bob R

Good idea Bob, I have watched that video and if the hook was a bigger hook or stuck somewhere other then my finger then yes the string trick is the way to go. I am an old farm boy grab the pliers and yank!! Ouch and *&**$%* and all good back to fishing!! Oh the fun of fishing and by catch!! lol.
