First time out this year for the old "Mustard Tub". I put in at the state park at 06:45. A few boats were fishing right out in front of the launch. More boats joined soon after. It was fairly chilly and I had no reason to get really cold running up or down lake. So, I started fishing as I left the launch. I saw the occasional net waved but not too many. By 08:30 I had boated 1 small 1 and missed 1.
I moved to up above the yacht club. Dropped in and tried again. Bare in mind I'm fishing blind at these depths due to poor electronics.(One in school and 1 more to go.) I fished from 50 to 130 Ft. on the wire. I was trying multiple scented offerings and plain corn as well. Finally around 09:30 I see the 130 rod dancing! As I was bringing it up, I assume a following fish hit the 100 Ft rod! Double! Fishing solo, this is where the fun meter is RED lined! These were a little better class of fish. I put lines back to the same depth. The 130 rod was dancing after a few minutes. Got that one in and reset both rods at 130. Boom! Doubled up again! Both fish made it in the boat. But, fishing at these depths, I had my line too deep in the clip. In the process of popping the line out of the clip I popped (snapped) my SST Kokanee rod. I did net the fish though.
At times the wind was pushing me sideways, I had fish flopping under foot and fish on!
A shout out to Fish Dawg on using drop shot spin shot hooks. The only fish I lost all day was a smaller one that I was too lazy to net and it popped off as I was lifting it in.
By 11:00 I was limited and it was getting a little lumpy. As I neared the launch it seemed to glass off. While my luck was running HIGH, I decided to try my luck at Mackinaw.
In the lower basin my fish finder will at least give me depths. I was running a chartreuse U-20 on one side and a needle fish on the other. The clip popped on the U-20! I had dredged up an old weight, dodger and hootchie. An hour later it popped again. I cranked like heck and set hook. As I was dragging this fish in, to my pleasure, all at once it decided to run! It was a PR for me!
I hope I didn't use up all my luck on this trip. I had a great outing. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Chelan get together.
