So I got on the water about 7 30. Started trolling to the end of the lake. No bites or anything. I was excited to get out to see if my new fish finder works good but I do not think it was. It's a Lowrance elite 3x. Cheap but I think it should do the job. It turns on and everything but it always said I was around 6 to 7ft of water when I clearly knew I wasnt. I did a set up with the transducer that j could be able to remove easily since I put it on a 12 ft boat. Please let me know if this will work or if this is what might have had it not working properly.

Anyways, after trying weddings ring of different colors and hoochie I called it around 10am. I tried 8ft all the way to 30ft on the downrigger. Lires baited with corn. It poured for a few min couple times. After the 3rd time I called it. There was another boat out there that had same results. Water temp on the fish finder said 46 and 47. Everything seemed to work besides the ft I was in. Please give me feed back on my transducer set up.

There was maybe 20 to 25 ppl fishing from the dock and lining up on the beach. I have no idea how they were doing. Hopefully weather picks up and I hope I can get my fish finder to tell me the ft and show me the fish correctly. Tight lines

I believe the bottom of your transducer should be almost level with the bottom of your boat. In the picture it is below and pointed down. I have made a portable finder similar to yours but used wood instead of PVC pipe.

There is an image at this website: http://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6634
Also did you make sure it was out of demo mode?

Do what Toni says, plus make sure the bolts are all tight. I can see one of nuts very very loose. That transducer should not move at all. Look on youtube for set up videos and how to adjust it then go try it on the water. For you I would say use the automatic features and this should get you a clear picture on your FF. The 6 to 7 feet maybe that you have the bottom scan to the first ten feet. It is very easy to change and not know it when your new to them. Like I said look on youtube for lowrance elite and adjusting them. You might want to do a factory reset to correct any changes you made and this will put you back to out of the box new. good luck.

At one time I had a hummingbird and got a kit that allows you to mount it on my trolling motor it worked out fine Maybe you can do the same check your transducer for water I had the same problem it had a small crack and water was getting in and causing false readings

Thank you both Toni and Hunter757. I did have it straight to the bottom and moved it. You said there's a demo mode. I had a feeling there has to be and it doesn't automatically start going when the transducer goes in the water. How do you take it off demo mode.

Hunter757 there is a bolt at the end that does not screw all the way but I have 2 before that one. That's just there just in case lol. Thanks guys again so much on the feedback. But if there's demo mode I will be sure it's that. So dumb of me.

The demo mode on my old 1998 humminbird was selected by a long press on the power button to tun the unit on. I have accidentally turned it on and been fooled by it many times. It's good to verify temps between our fish finders, as your readings agree with mine from friday.

try to re-seat the transducer plug to the unit. Some units will default to demo mode if the transducer is not plugged in.
