Hey guys :) Finally got back out to the lake and got to fish with Quadfather finally! We were a little slow getting out to the lake and to our surprise there were 5-6 people already in the Mission Bay catching fish right in front of us as we set up. I thought we'd be the only crazy ones fishing out in the cold but the people already there were out a jon boat, pontoon, even a person wading up to their hips, and not one single big boat with a cover was out there. Go figure.
We were out on the water roughly 10:30am I believe and fished it right up around 4:30pm. Toes were a freezing :) I took my pontoon out towards one of my favorite spots and wasn't getting much more then a few bites. I had to go a little deeper to find the fish as the day went on. But the trick for me that worked that day was hugging the shoreline where the steep rocks came down and slowly trolling a olive woolly bugger with a striped orange body. Took me changing out 3-4 of my favorite flies before settling on that one.
I believe together we brought 9 fish to hand, the big ones being 20" or a little more and 3lbs. A few small in the 14-15" and the rest 16-18. Good little variety. I think I need to sharpen my hooks, or maybe it's because I'm a little rusty and slow to the draw on setting the hook, but I feel like I lost twice as many as I caught. Always getting bites and then had a few hookups for only moments, another few lost maybe 10 feet away, haha, ah well, all part of it I suppose.
I'll put a few pictures in here. Of all the fish I only saw one male in the bunch and of course that's the one I didn't get a picture of. Their colors really come out this time of year, pretty fish, wish I'd have snapped a quick picture of him but he wasn't too happy in the net.
Hopefully I'll get out there again before the special regulation kicks in. Tight lines all.
