Received a report of some decent Kokanee fishing on Rufus and decided to check it out. Decent was an understatement. Not knowing how to fish this lake I started out doing the basic Kokanee thing. 25 feet down and 80 feet back, instant hook up with a 17 inch koke. Almost instantly we had a triple with two more big fish in the boat. Then limits within 15 minutes. All 17+" fish. Most insane fishing I have every had in the winter.

Being limited out we decided wit work some drop offs and current breaks to see if we could catch some walleye. But we coukdnt keep the dang Kokanee off! Called it a day after a 20 inch monster crushed a rapala and we realized that. Walleye want gonna happen with these little beasts around.

I will be back to this lake very soon.

Knew there were good size trips in Rufus but not these. Wow, those are nice fish, much bigger than anything I have caught in Chelan. That looks like a perch Rapala converted to single hook. Never have used them for kokes. Like #1, would like to know where you launched and what part of the lake did you fish? Thanks very much for the report and pics

Its a rainbow rapala. Looks like a f5 or cd5. Im surprised a koke would hit that.

Not surprising at all. Small plugs is all I ever use for rainbow and kokanee on Lake Roosevelt. Try the Owner Cultiva, I've had best luck with blue but on bright days try one with more flash.

Steelheadin360 could you give me some details please on where you launched and fished for those beautiful Kokanee, I know it is asking a lot but if you would share it would be much appreciated you can email me at schaljn@dshs.wa.gov, Hey noticed that you are using the Money Maker Blades and bead set up, does that wobble they produce make those Kokanee strike better?
