Went to Fourth of July last Saturday. 7 cars in the lot at 8 AM. Hiked down to mid-lake, no ice. The water level is pretty low. We caught 3 rainbows - the last one was almost 21" and 4.5 lbs. All on powerbait and worms about 18" off the bottom. Ya, it was cold and foggy- air temp was 36, water was 34, the rock I sat on was 30. Had the first fish for dinner Sat eve, it tasted kinda muddy. Anyone else had this happen this year? - I am soaking the rest of the fish in buttermilk and they are headed for the smoker - hopefully that will help.

To help eliminate the muddy taste, I gut my fish ASAP after catching them and in the absence of cold weather, put them on ice for the ride home. Fourth Of July fish tend to have that muddy taste problem…Shallow, weedy lake in a HOT Summer weather basin. Your buttermilk and smoker idea is a good one.

I always smoke em due to that? If you like to eat em after the catch Roosevelt is hard to beat?
