Well I decided to take my 8 yr. old son out for a little small mouth action on Moses Lake after school on Wed. the 28th and came across this sweet little honey hole on the south end of the lake. We were casting to the shore for smallies in 15’ of water when my son first pulled up a nice fat perch. So he threw his lure out again and on the next cast a second perch hit his bait, then a third fish.

So I dropped anchor and switched out our poles to the ultra-light rods and put on a brown trout magnet on each rod and tipped it with a very small piece of worm. The bite was on, I think I spent more time removing hooks from fish than catching them. My son’s face was so lit up grinning from ear to ear catching perch almost one after another. He thought he was the fishing King for the day, and I guess he was since he caught more than me.

When all was said and done, we ended up catching 61 fish and released all fish under 12”. We brought home about 35 fish. Thank goodness for the electric fillet knife, that was a lot of fish to clean. Looking forward to a awesome fish fry this weekend. It was a fantastic time fishing but I got more pleasure watching my boy being the fishing king. We never caught a single bass.

I'm 67 years old and I still get that grin from ear to ear when I'm jerking perch but watching my kids, grand kids and great grand kids catch them is even better. Thanks for the great post with a great catch and a great smile.

that grin is the whole reason WE started fishing at his age!

Way to go Dad! Your boy will be talking about that trip for many years to come! And it won't be a story about the fish that got away.

What did the largest perch measure? They all look like slab sized perch!

Wanted to add, that before opening the picture it looked like snow, not worn paint on the driveway. Thought that white on the ground might have been evidence of snow already!

Nothing better then creating memories with your son. Well done! :)
