My brother and Kim (pinkpole) came with me to try out the motors at Clear Lake this morning. We were going to troll for kokanee, too.
Big motor took a little bit to start but it did idle better than before I took it to the shop. The carb was too lean and there are holes at the mounts that cause exhaust to leak out which makes for a rough idle and smoke under the cowling. Trying to fix that would be a lot $$$.

Next was to see if the kicker would start. Steve told me to use the gas tank he gave me, so I did. This time it only took a half hour to start it. Then it ran fine while trolling. Don’t know what is going on with it.

Fish finder worked fine today. This is the new one they shipped to me after mine failed.

I didn’t fish today because I forgot that I lost a release clip last time I was out. And I just didn’t get around to making another so I could stack. Only 2 rods in the water today, Richard and Kim.

Kim got the first fish within minutes of getting her rig in the water. She used a Dick Nite Pink Splatter Dodger with a Wannafish A Lure Pretty in Pink (Trout) with a brass blade. It is for trout because it has a 2-3 foot leader and fly hooks. She got both of her 14 inch kokanee on it with 2 gulp white maggots. My brother Richard, hooked a trout on a Bloody Mary but he couldn’t get it out of the Scotty Orca rod holder. So I took over and lost it at the boat.
The fish were in the 30-40 foot range on the down rigger in anywhere from 56-80 foot of water. The water temperature was 74 degrees and there was a breeze that ruffled the top of the water. It was mostly cloudy today after we had the rain yesterday.
Just a note: This is the first time I have encountered the little red worms on them-in them.

Toni, can you eat the fish with red worms? I have seen them before in fish from the salt always threw them back. Nice job good size to them as well.

I haven't seen them at Clear before but I have at American. The San Juan worm Fly is an imitation. "The worms have been identified as bloodworms, the small larvae of the midge fly (Chironomidae). Sometimes used as fishing bait or to feed aquarium fish, the larvae of some of these insects contain hemoglobin, which helps them get oxygen from water and gives them their characteristic reddish hue."
Kim hates worms (even imitation) so I got the fish. I ate half of one.

nothing survives being cooked. there are lots of stuff in fish. and meat. but, because we dont see it, we dont worry about it. i have not seen these worms. were they in the stomach?, or where? at any rate. midge was a good patrern for trout. i would imagine kokes may eat them, beiing as they are nice and small. the worms in the riffe lake coho, are very distrubing. lol. but, again, they come out when you clean them. perhaps if i catch some worms, i would lose some weight. dont know how many times i got worms as a child. lol.
sorry you are having a time with your motors, toni. i know the feeling. i just broke my minn kota position lugs a few days ago. now, i must find parts...
